Focus and Scope

Jurnal Penelitian Karet publishs scientific original research article focusing on natural rubber both in pre and post harvest technologies as well as socio-economic aspects from Pusat Penelitian Karet (Indonesian Rubber Research Institute) and its subsidiary research centers also other institutions such as R & D Institute, Government Agency, University, Association and Industry.


Jurnal Penelitian Karet is multidisciplinary peer-reviewed national accredited journal. The scope of the journal are based on the primary research activities and specialty of Pusat Penelitian Karet such as:

  • Breeding & Plant Genetic
  • Agronomy, Plant Physiology & Exploitation
  • Protection, Pests & Plant Diseases 
  • Soil Science & Agroclimatology
  • Agribusiness & Agricultural Socio-Economics
  • Post Harvest Technology (Mechanization, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Material Science).



Jurnal Penelitian Karet is covering all major themes in natural rubber research and development such as :

  • Genetic Improvement, Selection, Identification, Testing and Characterization of Natural Rubber Clones
  • Technical Aspects of Rubber Farming System include Preparation, Seedling and Land Management,  Cultivation and Harvesting or Tapping of Rubber Trees
  • Basic Biology and Ecology of Rubber Plant Protection, Management of Rubber Plant Protection and Disease, Interaction between Rubber Plant and Pets
  • Chemical, Physical, Biology, and Ecology Properties of Soil, Soil Mechanical, Mapping, and Fertilization Recommendation.
  • Correlation between Climate Elements and Rubber Plant Productivity, Land Development for Rubber Plantation, Planning of Rubber Cultivation (Cropping Patterns, Irrigation)

Peer Review Process

The manuscript submitted to Jurnal Penelitian Karet will be blind peer-reviewed by Editorial Board Member and Reviewer which are assigned by Editor in Chief based on the manuscript focus and scope also academic discipline. By blind peer-review process, Editor Member and Reviewers are unaware of Author identity. 

The blind peer-review process is aimed to ensure that only good scientific original research article will be published in Jurnal Penelitian Karet. Editor and Reviewer has a right to reject if the manuscript does not fill the journal standard quality and requirement  as defined. While the accepted manuscript will be published online and can be access on the Jurnal Penelitian Karet official website as follows: http://ejournal.puslitkaret.co.id/index.php/jpk.

Language used in this journal is Bahasa Indonesia based on Ejaan Yang Disempurnakan (EYD).

Manuscript submitted to Jurnal Penelitian Karet will first be checked and verified its format by Assistant Editor including the manuscript compliance to the template and supplementary documents (cover letter and publication ethic form). If the Authors have not followed the instruction prior to the submission, the Assistant Editor will notify the Authors and ask to resubmit. 

All submitted paper to Jurnal Penelitian Karet are also checked for plagiarism by using "Plagiarism Checker" with tolerance as 60% by the Assistant Editor.

The Editor in Chief then assign one of the Editorial Member and one of Peer-Reviewer to independently blind review the verified manuscript in accordance with the expertise or focus and scope of the article. The blind peer-review evaluation is  primary covering the adequacy of scientific quality, novelty, and state of the art from the manuscript.

The decision for publication or rejection refers to the Editor and Reviewer report and recommendation. The recommendation from Editorial Member and/or Peer-Reviewer are :

  • Accepted submission without revision
  • Accepted submission with revision required (major or minor revision)
  • Rejection or declined submission

The revised version of the manuscript from the Author should be sent back to the Editorial Board without delay by online submission. If the manuscript is regarded unsuitable for publication in Jurnal Penelitian Karet, justification and reason for rejection will be sent to the Author within three months of the submission date.

The accepted manuscript will be copy-edited before being published in Jurnal Penelitian Karet. During copy-edit stage, the Assistant Editor will correct the manuscript by catching grammar and spelling errors, standardizing format, and improving clarity. The Author should approve the final format of copy-edit version, for further lay-outing according to the journal publishing formats as “Article In Press”.


Article Processing Charges (APCs)
Under the Open-Access policy, Jurnal Penelitian Karet does not levy any processing charges (submitting, peer reviewing, editing, publishing, maintaining and archiving) for authors to submit their research paper in publishing regular edition


Publication Frequency

Jurnal Penelitian Karet (Indonesian Journal of Natural Rubber Research, p-ISSN : 0852-808X ; e-ISSN : 2503-0469) publishs 2 issues per volume per year scheduled on June and December, respectively.  Every edition consists of 9 to 12 original research articles focusing on all aspects of the natural rubber research and development. Jurnal Penelitian Karet is published by Pusat Penelitian Karet (Indonesian Rubber Research Institute) – PT. Riset Perkebunan Nusantara (RPN).


Open Access Policy

Jurnal Penelitian Karet (Indonesian Journal of Natural Rubber Research) provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supporting a greater global exchange of knowledge although for commercial purposes.

All articles published Open Access will be immediately and permanently free for everyone to read and download.  We are continuously working with our author communities to select the best choice of license options, currently being defined for this journal as follows:

Jurnal Penelitian Karet (Indonesian Journal of Natural Rubber Research, p-ISSN : 0852-808X, e-ISSN : 2503-0469) is a peer-reviewed national accredited journal. This statement clarifies ethical behaviour of all parties involved in the act of publishing an article in this journal, including the author, the Editor in Chief, the Editorial Board, the Peer-Reviewer­­­­­ and the Publisher (Pusat Penelitian Karet – PT. Riset Perkebunan Nusantara). This statement is based on COPE’s Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.

Ethical Guideline for Journal Publication

The publication of an article in a peer-reviewed Jurnal Penelitian Karet is an essential building block in the development of a coherent and respected network of knowledge. It is a direct reflection of the quality of the work of the authors and the institutions that support them. Peer-reviewed articles support and embody the scientific method. It is therefore important to agree upon standards of expected ethical behavior for all parties involved in the act of publishing: the author, the journal editor, the peer reviewer, the publisher and the society.  

Pusat Penelitian Karet (Indonesian Rubber Research Institute) – PT. Riset Perkebunan Nusantara as publisher of Jurnal Penelitian Karet takes its duties of caring over all stages of publishing extremely seriously and we recognize our ethical and other responsibilities. We are committed to ensure that advertising, reprint or other commercial revenue has no impact or influence on editorial decisions. In addition, Pusat Penelitian Karet and Editorial Board will assist in communications with other journals and/or publishers where this is useful and necessary.

Publication decisions

The editor of the Jurnal Penelitian Karet is responsible for deciding which of the articles submitted to the journal should be published. The validation of the work  and its importance to researchers and readers must always factors to make that  such decisions. The editors may be guided by the policies of the journal's editorial board and constrained by such legal requirements as shall then be in force regarding libel, copyright infringement and plagiarism. The editors may confer with other editors or reviewers in making this decision.

Fair play

An editor at any time evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.


The editor and any editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate.

Disclosure and conflicts of interest

Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor's own research without the express written consent of the author.

Duties of Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions 

Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and through the editorial communications with the author may also assist the author in improving the paper.


Any selected referee who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse himself from the review process.


Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor.

Standards of Objectivity 

Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Referees should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.

Acknowledgement of Sources 

Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument had been previously reported should be accompanied by the relevant citation. A reviewer should also call to the editor's attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest 

Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.

Duties of Authors

Reporting standards 

Authors of reports of original research should present an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be represented accurately in the paper. A paper should contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behaviour and are unacceptable.

Data Access and Retention 

Authors are asked to provide the raw data in connection with a paper for editorial review, and should be prepared to provide public access to such data (consistent with the ALPSP-STM Statement on Data and Databases), if practicable, and should in any event be prepared to retain such data for a reasonable time after publication.

Originality and Plagiarism 

The authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works, and if the authors have used the work and/or words of others that this has been appropriately cited or quoted.

Multiple, Redundant or Concurrent Publication 

An author should not in general publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behaviour and is unacceptable.

Acknowledgement of Sources 

Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work.

Authorship of the Paper 

Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Where there are others who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project, they should be acknowledged or listed as contributors. The corresponding author should ensure that all appropriate co-authors and no inappropriate co-authors are included on the paper, and that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper and have agreed to its submission for publication.

Hazards and Human or Animal Subjects 

If the work involves chemicals, procedures or equipment that have any unusual hazards inherent in their use, the author must clearly identify these in the manuscript.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest 

All authors should disclose in their manuscript any financial or other substantive conflict of interest that might be construed to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed.

Fundamental errors in published works 

When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the author’s obligation to promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper.

Journal History

JURNAL PENELITIAN KARET (Indonesian Journal of Natural Rubber Research, p-ISSN : 0852-808X ; e-ISSN : 2503-0469) is accredited national scientific journal published by Pusat Penelitian Karet (Indonesian Rubber Research Institute) – PT. Riset Perkebunan Nusantara, based in Jalan Raya Palembang - Pangkalan Balai KM 29 Sembawa Banyuasin 30953 South Sumatera Indonesia. The objective of the journal is to disseminate the innovation of rubber research to researcher, practitioners and user of information in general. Authors contributing on the publication of Jurnal Penelitian Karet are coming from Indonesian Rubber Research Institute and its subsidiary research center and also other research and development institutes, government agencies, universities, associations, and industries.

The first publication of the journal was in 1983, named “Bulletin Perkaretan” (p-ISSN 0216-7867). Bulletin Perkaretan was set as scientific journal based on Decree of Indonesian Science Institute Number 9198/SK/J.10/84 dated November 30, 1984. The transformation of journal name into “Jurnal Penelitian Karet” was happened in 1995 which followed by the change on p-ISSN became 0852-808X. The transformation was regulated in Decree of AP3I Number : 017/95 dated 27 Februari 1995.

The frequency of publication is arranged as 2 issues per volume per year in every June and December which contain of 9 to 12 articles each edition. The journal recognition of accreditation has been obtained as follows :

2007 : Certificate accreditation No 104/Akred-LIPI/P2MBI/10/2007dated October 26, 2007

2010 : Certificate accreditation No 317/AU1/P2MBI/10/2010 dated October 27, 2010

2012 : Certificate accreditation No 506/AU2/P2MI-LIPI/10/2012 and Decree of LIPI No 893/E/2012 dated October 1, 2012.

2015 : Certificate accreditation No 703/AU3/P2MI-LIPI/10/2015 and Decree of LIPI No 1215/E/2015 dated October 30, 2015

2018 : Decree of Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education No. 30/E/KPT/2018 dated 24 October 2018 (Accredited as SINTA 2 (S2))

Jurnal Penelitian Karet has began the electronic editorial system by using Open Access E-Journal System  (OJS) since the publication of Jurnal Penelitian Karet Volume 35 Issue 1, 2017. Therefore, the manuscript submission and access to download the published manuscript in the Jurnal Penelitian Karet are through its official website as http://ejournal.puslitkaret.co.id/index.php/jpk. Jurnal Penelitian Karet has indexed by Google Scholar. The copyright license is based on Creative Commons Attribution - ShareAlike (CC BY-SA).
